The Power Behind the Hope
Our Nurse Educator Team
The Nurse Educator Team at ACT Genomics has been operating for more than 5 years. They are pioneers in ‘Precision Medicine’ industry, as well as the first dedicated team in cancer genomics in Taiwan. From just one person to a team of five, they have come a long way.
They are knowledgeable and talented, with recognized nursing qualifications.
They are seasoned professionals, with over 5-years of experience in taking care of patients on oncology wards.
They serve as a bridge in the treatment process, communicating with specialist doctors and nurses, plus bringing full information to both patients and their families.
They are smart and intelligent. They build their teaching materials from scratch. They make complicated medical information easy to understand.
They work day and night, prioritizing and attending patients’ needs.
They cope with all the hard work day in day out.
They are patient and understanding. They interact with patients’ families with great empathy.
They are not pushy. They give all the information a patient needs for a decision that works best for him or her.
They are calm and visionary. They take pride in expanding their arena for promoting genomics. They are now communicating with the insurance companies, and giving talks in schools.
They are positive and optimistic. They are here to help more people. They support each other in the team, so that they can progress together and spur each other on.
Our Nurse Educators are wise as owls. They are loving guardian angels.
There are breakthroughs in medical development every year. Genomic tests give patients a better chance to get more precise treatment. With precise genomic information of each individual patient, doctors can integrate clinical evaluation to work out precise treatment plans. Hopefully it will enhance treatment results and facilitate better living quality.
That’s why the role of a Nurse Educator has never been more important. Many patients have been in treatment for a while, but treatment results are not meeting their expectations. They are looking for new possibilities. Our team is experienced at understanding the fear and anxiety that these patients and their families are facing. At this sensitive moment, they will handle their emotions first and then explain the procedures of the genomic tests in detail, what the advantages are, what limitations they have, so that the patients and families can make a rational decision.
In other words, the Nurse Educator Team is bringing hope, but not blind hope.
In recent years, the team has witnessed patients finding new treatment directions through genomic tests. This has been very rewarding. The bigger reward is that as a companion, the team can slowly gain trust from the patients and their families, helping them to clarify any anxieties and to make a well-informed decision.
Rome can’t be built in one day. When the Nurse Education Department is first set up, the team had to work out their own way, accumulating everything from teaching materials to teaching experience. From one-on-one consultation to giving talks to big groups. From managing administrative work to attending training courses on new medical knowledge. Every step of the way gives them more relief.
“Our mission is to promote the right information to a wider audience. In this way, more people can benefit from making a wise choice about their health.” said Zoey Hsu, Manager, Clinical Nurse Education Department at ACT Genomics.
By interacting with patients and their families, our Nurse Educator Team has learnt a lesson in life – when our body and mind struggle with sickness, they also experience love. A chance to be reborn. At ACT Genomics, the team will continue their hard work because where there is action, there is hope.
