Hope and Rainbows
When Abu was ill, she heard a touching tale: no matter what, we will meet under the rainbow, again and again without fail. While still here on earth, seeing all the smiling faces, she knew that we must treasure life—and live our dreams with a million loving embraces. Our Nurse Educator Team has also encountered many unforgettable stories. It was these stories that helped Abu to create these 12 beautiful paintings depicting the healing power of love.

Treatment, again and again,
With cancer there will often be pain.
But Ms Cheung has learnt a better way to be,
Like a dolphin, jumping for joy in the sea,
She still lives life to the full, forever free.

A Nurse Educator’s job is at times demanding,
We pass on DNA tests that can be sad or alarming.
Some parents react fiercely, roaring in pain,
These tiger moms and dads are often the same.
But we fully understand why their rage is so tough,
It’s all down to their unshakable love.

When his terminal cancer took hold,
He lost his job and his fiancee hit the road.
But his family never gave up on him,
With their unconditional love he could still win.
Now six years have gone and his kangaroo heart is still pumping.
Life is like a boxing match, never give up, keep on punching.

He darts around the corals in a game of hide and seek.
His treatments cause him huge pain and tears,
But he still keeps smiling, never wants to show loved ones his fears.

Because his bravery never falters.

What happens to one member can happen to the next.
When cancer strikes, some fear for their children,
Seek DNA tests just to be certain.
But, though afraid, she put aside her fear.
No, she will not hide in the shadows, but run free like a deer.

Lion is my high school friend,
She’s a Leo and a Lion King,
My sister to the end!
She can be thorny as a rose,
With a frosty face,
But her heart is warm as summer,
And she fills me with grace.
She will roar in my defence,
And hug me for no reason.

You are a friend for every season.

Gogo is younger than me, so loyal, funny and cool.
We grew up together, shared the same school.
Gogo’s the one who brought brushes and colors for me,
Thanks to her I can stand on my feet, and paint wild and free.

Success in life is not the biggest test,
Not as important as always trying to do your best.
My school friend, Piggie, and I had a bit of a fall out,
So before my operation I sent her a sorry note.
Now she insists I see her when I recover,
And our friendship we can rediscover.
Her optimism is kind and contagious,
With her on my side I feel so courageous.

This illness is like a filter, making everything clear.
It reveals the friends you can trust, who help quell your fear.
My male friends are like Teddy bears, soft and strong,
They give me the courage to walk on and on…

She’s wise and kind and honest to the core.
She visits with her mom each week without fail,
And sends me postcards which make my heart swell.

My mood nosedived,
My spirits slumped.
But so many noble people helped me get on track,
Like a mighty elephant they carried me on their back.
Now I’m up in the mountains, flying high as a kite.
